Particularly complex work situations require special competencies from everyone involved. For leaders, this means keeping a close eye on the skills and abilities of their team members in order to initiate targeted development measures.
At Coverdale, we use KODE® as our approach to competence development. For diagnosis and development, we apply the KODE® Competence Atlas developed by Erpenbeck and Heyse. The atlas distinguishes four main areas of competence:
- Personal Competence
- Activity and Action Competence
- Social-Communicative Competence
- Technical and Methodological Competence

These four main competencies are linked in the atlas to 64 individual competencies. Each one is defined by four so-called behavioral anchors that describe how the competency shows up “in practice.”
In our work, we have identified four competencies as essential for effective collaboration, especially in complex contexts. Take a moment to reflect on how you, your team members, and your colleagues demonstrate respect in relation to these competencies.
In the table below, you’ll find the four competencies, along with their associated behavioral anchors and a rating scale ranging from — to ++. Use this scale to indicate how, from your perspective, you or others currently demonstrate these competencies.

This will give you an initial picture of where you or the other person currently stand in your perception—and where there might be a first need for action.
If you are interested in receiving a complete KODE® profile, we will be happy to arrange a consultation with you.
